Keep your clothes looking glamorous by following these tips to freshen up your laundry skills and look after your most precious garments.
Colours
Sort clothes into whites, light colours and dark colours. Never mix them unless you want pink t -shirts.
Temperature
Always follow the temperature on the care label or you risk ruining your clothes fast!
Wash program
Again follow the directions on the care label for the best wash program for fabric care. Hand wash items can be machined wash if your washer has a specified program. It will actually do a better job than you and be gentler on clothes.
Washing bags - inexpensive insurance
Any pretty lingerie or silky nightdresses you treasure, should be washed in a washing bag (those little nylon net bags with a zip). The bag protects the garment as it tumbles.
Keep your bras white
Most white synthetic lingerie is actually dyed white. So when you wash it with bleach, the white colour runs out and you’re left with a grey looking rag! Wash your nice white lingerie in detergent for colours that doesn’t contain bleach.
Air more
Does that shirt stink of smoke or last night’s dinner? Washing clothes wears out the fabric. Sometimes it’s enough to air the garment rather than washing it.
Drying silk
Drip dry silk (but not in the sun as it bleaches easily in sunlight), or press out the water with a towel and then hang up to dry.
Wool
Dry wool with a short gentle spin or roll up in a dry towel and press out the water, then dry flat.
Tumble dryers
Most garments can be dried in a tumble dryer, since you can choose from a range of programs and times. Many people believe (wrongly) that garments get more worn by tumble dryers, because so much lint gathers in the filter. The truth is your clothes suffer more wear while being worn by you.
Ironing
Begin your ironing with the garments that require the lowest temperature first. Because your iron heats up faster than it can cool down!
Find ironing a bore?
If you don’t have an Electrolux Iron Aid™ Dryer and don’t have the time to iron, hang your garments in your bathroom while you have a shower. The warm steam will smooth out creases without you lifting a finger.
