Find a shady place to rest your fridge. Give it a regular check-up. Adopt a new approach to freezing your foods. These tips can impact your fridge’s energy performance.

Think about where you place your fridge:
• Significant energy savings can be achieved by placing your appliance in a cool spot - avoid placement next to heat sources like ovens and radiators, or in direct sunlight • Consider insulating your fridge from wall or floor heating sources.

• Frequent defrosting keeps the evaporator unit clean from thick layers of ice; enabling it to operate more efficiently. You know its time when the ice layer reaches a thickness of 3-5 mm.

Closing doors:
• Replace fridge door sealings if you think that your door is not closing properly
• Dust your fridge. The condenser on the back and the space underneath the fridge should be kept free from dust and last week’s leftovers
• Try to avoid keeping the door open for long periods, or opening the door too frequently. Warm air enters the cabinet, and causes the compressor to switch on unnecessarily
• Double check that there are no obstructions preventing your fridge door from closing properly
• Many Electrolux appliances are equipped with ‘door ajar’ alarms.

Chill first:
• Hot food should be cooled before fridge storage. Steam contributes to icing in the evaporator unit. But for reasons of health and hygiene don’t let the food stand at room temperature too long
• Thaw frozen food in the fridge. This will ensure safer defrosting and optimal use of the refrigeration unit
• A suitable temperature is in the range of 4-5 °C.

Then freeze:
• Food which is to be frozen (when cool) should be placed in the fridge before being transferred to the freezer
• Avoid unnecessary frosting in the cabinet by packing all foodstuffs into airtight packages before placing them in the freezer.
• A suitable temperature is in the range of -18°C to -20°C.
